Backstory STL #2: Patrick Benson
ST. LOUIS (First Alert 4) -- This week’s guest on Backstory STL is Patrick Benson, an advocate for people involved in the criminal justice system as well as substance s.
Benson is currently working toward a bachelor’s degree in social work at the University of Missouri-St. Louis. He was able to go back to school thanks to a scholarship from the NextStep program, which gives people in substance use recovery a chance to pursue a new career.
Benson works as a case manager at the Criminal Justice Ministry in St. Louis. He recently testified in Jefferson City for a bill that would help streamline the expungement process for non-violent felonies.
On this episode of Backstory STL, Benson talked about what led to his years-long struggles with alcohol and meth. He’s been sober since 2019 and openly speaks about his past.
