Water goes out at Spanish Lake apartments for second time in less than a month
NORTH ST. LOUIS COUNTY (First Alert 4) - Some residents of the Trinity Park Place Apartments, near I-270 and Lilac Avenue, endured five days with no water. It wasn’t the first time they’ve lost water service recently.
“Here we go again,” said resident, Jacqueline Butler.
Residents said water service stopped on Thursday last week. Alisha Butler said tenants have been unable to reach anyone at the property management office to get an explanation for the water shutoff or when it’ll be restored.
“We basically have been surviving. It’s not impossible but it’s definitely a struggle and an inconvenience. And to have no communication about what was going on, it became real frustrating,” she said.
In January, a number of water lines burst after a cold snap, leaving dozens of residents without water for weeks.
An employee in the property management office said she wasn’t authorized to speak with the news media. First Alert 4 reached out to a corporate office but no one answered the phone.
The furnace and hot water heaters for each apartment are located in an enclosure that’s not well insulated, on the exterior of the building. An employee at Orr Plumbing Services explained over the phone that the furnace is expected to keep the enclosure warm during the winter months.
But if an apartment unit is empty and the property management shuts off the furnace to save money, the employee said, the enclosure won’t be warm enough to prevent the pipes from freezing.
