Mom’s Deli final day on Jamieson Avenue on Sunday
ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4)—According to the owner, Mom’s Deli, a St. Louis staple, plans to close its doors by the end of the weekend, but not for good.
“They’ve been here for like 47 years so I kind of did the math in my head today and I’m like wow...,” said Charlotte Boyce.
Boyce says she worked at Mom’s Deli in South City 44 years ago when she was 14 years old. On Friday, she said her goodbyes, for now, to the nearly 50-year-old sandwich shop on Jamieson Avenue.
Two weeks ago, a note appeared on the door stating, “Unfortunately, Mom’s Deli’s lease is not being renewed.” The note went on to say that the owners are looking forward to reopening at a new location.
“It’s a little depressing because I brought my daughter here who is standing in line right now to get us some sandwiches before the lease expires on Sunday and I’ve actually brought my granddaughter here and she loves the Mom’s special just like I do,” said Boyce.
First Alert 4 obtained documents the day after the announcement showing an eviction order was filed but on February 18th that order was dismissed. It is unclear why. The owner, her legal counsel or 1810 Management LLC couldn’t be reached for comment on Friday.
