ST. LOUIS, Mo. (Matrix Midwest) - St. Louis CITY SC is sending midfielder Indiana Vassilev to the Philadelphia Union in exchange for $1M in General Allocation Money.

Following rumors of the deal Thursday afternoon, the club officially announced Friday that it will receive $400,000 in 2025 GAM and $600,000 in 2026 GAM for the 24-year-old midfielder.

The deal also includes a possibility for an additional $200,000 in GAM if certain performance-based incentives are achieved.

“We thank Indy for everything he gave to the city of St. Louis and the crest,” Sporting Director Lutz Pfannenstiel said. “It is never easy to move on from the players we invested in, but it is part of the business. Our aim is to take the GAM we received from this trade and reinvest as soon as possible to bolster the team in a way that makes us successful.”

A native of Savannah, Georgia, Vassilev was selected as one of five players from the 2022 MLS Expansion draft after spending two seasons at Inter Miami CF.

Through his two years in St. Louis, he has produced back-to-back seven-goal contribution seasons, which were career-bests.

In 2023, the midfielder tallied two goals and five assists over 34 matches. The following season, he recorded three goals and four assists over 29 matches.

CITY SC will kick off its 2025 season on Saturday, Feb. 22, against the Colorado Rapids at Energizer Park.
