ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) - St. Francois County residents say they’re still cleaning up after an ice storm a few weeks ago and have been hit with nearly a foot of snow. Now, people are shoveling their way out and finding time to have fun in the snow.

“I shoveled the sidewalk but a shovel on a car roof doesn’t work well, a broom works much better than a shovel,” said David Lubbers, a Knob Lick resident.

Lubbers says Tuesday’s snow wasn’t so bad because he’s used to South Dakota winters. He measured the snow in his yard, which totaled about 8 inches.

He wasn’t the only one digging his car out from underneath the snow...

“Everything close to the sidewalk is being shoveled over into the yard that way we have a clear walking path and cars can get out easy without getting stuck,” said Daelyn Wickerham, a Desloge resident.

Wickerham is a firefighter. He spent about three hours digging his way out, just in case of an emergency.

“That way I can get to the firehouse without waiting 2nd or 3rd page in before they fill in with someone else because it could be life-threatening,” said Wickerham.

Meanwhile, some are digging themselves deeper into the snow. Julie and Riley Freeman sledding for the first time ever.

“It’s my favorite thing... It’s her first time sledding, we didn’t have our sleds in time last time it snowed so I told her the next time it snows, we would be out so here we are,” said The Freeman’s.

With warmer weather on the way, some people tell us they’ll just wait until the weekend to dig themselves out.
