Edwardsville business helps keep snow plows running through difficult winter
EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. (First Alert 4) - A series of snowstorms through January and February have kept road crews around the region busy.
That means the shop at Woody’s Municipal Supply Co. has been working around the clock for several weeks, too.
Woody’s sells and services snowplows and other machinery and equipment to local government departments, a business that usually peaks in the summer months as agencies prepare for winter.
But T.J. Moore, the sales manager for the company, said the heavy snowstorm in January that left parts of the region covered in ice for days kicked off a long stretch of high demand for new equipment and repairs.
“Ever since that January snow phones have been ringing off the hook. These trucks are critical for the public to move around the street,” Moore said.
Woody’s recent clients include the City of St. Louis, Decatur, Collinsville, and Lambert International Airport. St. Louis had purchased two new plows that the company delivered earlier in the week. Nick Ladwig, the owner of the company, described them as versatile and powerful trucks that could handle a range of demands.
“It can be a dump truck in the summer and a snow plow in the winter,” Ladwig explained.
Some of the company’s employees, like Russ Riebold, have worked in the shop for decades.
“It’s kind of a specialty thing that you can’t learn in school. You can learn to weld or learn electronics,” Riebold said. “When you put it all together It’s kind of unique.”
