WASHINGTON (Gray DC) - Big changes coming to America’s smallest currency.

President Donald Trump announcing the U.S. will do away with the penny.

The humble penny is getting short-changed.

President Trump ordering the Treasury Department to halt production of the copper currency, arguing it’s no longer penny-wise.

According to the US Mint, it costs about three and half cents to crank out a single coin. That’s a pretty penny.

Last year they lost an estimated $85 million making 3 billion new ones.

For Eve, the move makes perfect cents.

“I’m a barista and I haven’t used cash in about ten years.”

Others, like Perry, can’t make heads or tails of it.

“I love pennies”

But the million dollar question is, does Donald Trump have the authority to pinch the penny?

The answer is unclear.

According to the US Mint, it’s not up to the president, the Federal Reserve or the Treasury Department to make the call, it’s up to Congress.

Either way, it seems the penny is running out of luck.
