KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - The Chiefs are less than a week away from possibly making NFL history, becoming the first team to win three Super Bowls in a row. With another Super Bowl within reach, city representatives are looking forward to a possible celebration.

On Tuesday morning, Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas proposed a $905,000 budget for a “Kansas City Chiefs Postseason Championship Celebration.” In years past, that celebration included a parade through downtown Kansas City, ending with a rally at Union Station. The mayor would not confirm those plans for a possible 2025 celebration.

However, Mayor Lucas did confirm a larger police presence in 2025. During the 2024 celebration, Kansas City secured about 800 officers along the parade route and at Union Station. According to Lucas, that number will be over 1,000 this time around. Even though Lucas would not reveal too many details, he did say the celebration would look ‘different’.

“I will say with our celebration, regardless of what happens this year, it will be a little faster than what you’ve seen in the past,” Lucas said. “We’re going to make sure folks who are on the route still see things, but also that there is real motion and connection. It’s part of how I think we make sure you don’t have some of those concerns, kind of a stagnation that maybe you’ve seen in years past.”

Kansas City’s Finance, Governance, and Public Safety committee held a closed session to discuss specifics but did approve $905,000 for a celebration. The full council will make a final decision and vote on Thursday, Feb. 6.

For reference, Kansas City allocated $725,000 for a Super Bowl celebration in 2023 and $975,000 in 2024.
