Community group pays tribute to 4 year old killed in Castle Point
ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. (First Alert 4) - Show Me Peace, a violence intervention group let their presence be known in the Castle Point community.
Four-year-old Aubreeyonna Muex was shot and killed in the North County neighborhood Monday afternoon.
The girl was shot in the 10500 block of Castle Drive around 1:45 p.m.
Responding officers rendered aid and took the child to an area hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.
Latoya Wilson, a member of Show Me Peace tells First Alert 4, “My heart hurts when I think about the loss of a child, like it’s heartbreaking.”
It is still unclear if the shooting was intentional or accidental.
Police have not released any new information about the case.
“We’re not here to judge any details or specifics of the situation. We are here as a community to be a good neighbor,” Wilson said.
Show Me Peace walked the neighborhood, knocked on doors, and offered counseling resources.
“This isn’t us just looking out. This is something many of us have experienced ourselves, so for us we carry the weight because we feel it,” said Jason Watson, a member who showed up to today’s event.
He says this is a burden he is familiar with.
According to Watson, his son was shot in the same neighborhood.
A year and a half later, he’s working to remind people about the toll violence takes on communities.
Watson tells First Alert 4, “It’s just valuable to see the community is looking for this type of and a community is willing to partner in this type of .”
