MoDOT, IDOT monitoring road conditions for morning commute
ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) - A winter snowstorm has covered the bi-state with multiple inches of snow and ice.
Bob Becker, District Maintenance Engineer for MoDOT St. Louis District, tells First Alert 4, “We’ve been working out 24/7. And if you do have to get out and you’re out driving around, make sure you’re being careful and taking it slow because you know conditions can change.”
If you are hoping to see a drastic change by morning, MoDOT says their crews will work all night to make a difference.
“The goal is to get it pushed back as far as we can get a good treatment on right for rush hour in the morning about shift change time and allow that material. They’re still going to be quite a bit on the road in the morning because it is going to be cold and it takes a longer time for our material to work in this cold weather,” says Becker.
In Illinois, IDOT says they are making progress.
Joseph Monroe, IDOT Operations Engineer says, “The lull in the storm has allowed the treatment that we put out in advance of the storm and throughout the day, it’s still working.”
But with another blast of snow moving in, IDOT is concerned progress will be set back.
They urge people to stay home.
If you must drive, make room for snow plows.
“Give them the respect and courtesy that you know, give them room to do their job,” says Monroe.
