FBI releases photos of New Orleans terror suspect and explosives packed in cooler
NEW ORLEANS (WVUE/Gray News) - The FBI has released new surveillance images as part of its ongoing investigation into the Jan. 1 terror attack on Bourbon Street in New Orleans.
The attack, which officials say was carried out by Shamsud-Din Jabbar, killed at least 14 people and injured dozens more.
The incident began around 3:15 a.m. on New Year’s Day when Jabbar drove a pickup truck into a crowd on Bourbon Street. He then exited the vehicle and opened fire on law enforcement officers, who returned fire and fatally shot him at the scene.
One image shows Jabbar walking along Dauphine Street near Governor Nicholls Street at 2:03 a.m., just over an hour before the attack. Jabbar is seen wearing a light brown long coat, a dark button-down shirt, blue jeans, and brown dress shoes.

Another photo reveals one of two coolers containing improvised explosive devices (IEDs) that Jabbar placed near the intersection of Bourbon and Orleans Streets prior to driving his pickup truck into a crowd.
The IEDs were rendered safe by authorities shortly after the attack.
The FBI is urging anyone with information, photos, or video footage of Jabbar, the coolers, or the attack to come forward.
