CLAYTON, Mo. (First Alert 4) – St. Louis County Prosecutor Wesley Bell has secured a seat in Congress.

Bell easily defeated Andrew Jones Jr. on Tuesday in the race for Missouri’s First Congressional District. Bell was heavily favored to win a seat that is considered the most Democratic in the state. The district covers all of St. Louis City, all of North County and small parts of Mid County and West County.

“Today, the people of the St. Louis region voted for a brighter future and greater opportunity,” said Bell. “During my campaign, I promised to serve the First District with integrity, transparency, and ability. I recommit myself to that promise tonight, and pledge to always who sent me to Congress to fight for them — the people of this region. I am humbled and honored to have the privilege of representing our region in Washington. We must build an economy that works for everyone, protect our rights and freedoms, and make sure that America remains on the forward journey towards building a more perfect union. I’m ready to get to work.”

In August, Bell defeated incumbent Cori Bush in a nationally watched primary. Bush held the seat for two after she upset longtime Congressman Lacy Clay. The Clay family held the seat for more than 50 years.

Bell has served as St. Louis County Prosecutor since 2019 and before that, he was elected to the Ferguson City Council.
