Chiefs DeAndre Hopkins takes the podium following Andy Reid’s announcement he ‘could play’ Sunday

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - The Kansas City Chiefs and Tennessee Titans agreed to early Wednesday morning to bring former All-Pro wide-receiver DeAndre Hopkins to Chiefs Kingdom. The Chiefs confirmed that deal Thursday morning and said Hopkins could play as early as this weekend.
The all-pro wide receiver was traded to the Chiefs for a 5th-rounder that can become a 4th-rounder depending on production.
Hopkins, who began his career in Houston and spent time with the Arizona Cardinals as well, holds some impressive accolades. He’s a five-time Pro Bowler and a three-time All-Pro selection.
During the 2023 season, Hopkins recorded 75 catches for 1,057 yards and 7 touchdowns. Through six games with the Titans in 2024, Hopkins has 15 receptions for 173 yards and a touchdown. The Titans opted to trade him following a 1-5 start to the season and injuries to their starting quarterback, Will Levis.
Hopkins previously played for the Tennessee Titans, Arizona Cardinals, and Houston Texans.
The Hopkins trade addresses a wide receiver shortage in the Kansas City Chiefs organization. The shortage comes after offseason g Hollywood Brown injured his shoulder on the first snap of the preseason, second-year Chiefs star Rashee Rice suffered a season-ending knee injury in a Week 4 game against the Los Angeles Chargers, and veteran wideout Juju Smith-Schuster left Sunday’s win over the San Francisco 49ers with a hamstring injury.
Hopkins could play Sunday when the 6-0 Chiefs travel to play the 2-5 Las Vegas Raiders at Allegiant Stadium. That game will kick off at 3:25 p.m. CT Sunday and can be watched locally on KCTV5.
