FERGUSON, Mo. (First Alert 4) - Residents living along South Harvey Avenue in Ferguson are fed up with speeding drivers and would like more to be done to curb it.

Larry Graeser says his “Slow Down” sign in his front yard and the speed bumps aren’t working.

“They don’t stop when I holler at them,” Graeser. “Slow these people down! When they come off that hill and flying down there doing like 40 mph, 50 mph.”

The posted speed limit is 25 mph. Graeser says for 40 years, he’s lived here and witnessed cars flying down South Harve Avenue.

“Fast! Them hitting my kids, hitting my nephews,” explained Ashley Power. “These cars, come and go really fast.”

Power walks her son and nephews from school along the road and says drivers are always speeding.

Ferguson Police Captain Harry Dilworth says they’ve gotten several calls from residents about reckless driving.

“That’s why we are employing these extra patrols,” said Captain Dilworth. “We’ve got officers out there measuring speed in these residential neighborhoods.”

Tuesday, Dilworth says officers responded to a crash with an injury at South Harvey and Suburban Avenues; Dilworth says speed was a contributing factor.

Back in April, First Alert 4 reported on another dangerous road in Ferguson, Chambers Avenue. A head-on crash left five people injured with broken bones and head injuries. The city of Ferguson also added speed humps about a month ago along South Harvey and some surrounding streets to pump the brakes on speeders.

Graeser says with more stop signs, more speed humps and a heavier police presence, he hopes one day drivers will slow down.
