Pregame

With Kansas out of playoff contentions and CITY’s fate nearly sealed, this game has more to do with bragging rights between the two clubs than the season. In their this year, CITY and Kansas have tied at Children’s Mercy Park.

“This is a personal thing... I just want to win; beat Kansas,” captain and goalkeeper Roman Bürki said during a pregame press conference.

CITY is coming into the matchup after earning their first road win of the season in a match against San Jose.

However, as an ever-looming specter that has haunted this club all season, several impact players are nursing injuries. Unsurprisingly, Tomáš Ostrák and Célio Pompeu remain out. Missing from the matchday lineup was Chris Durkin, who is nursing a knee injury. Indiana Vassilev, who is on concussion protocol, also wasn’t in CITY’s lineup.

Despite a focus on bragging rights, a loss to Sporting will likely be the official nail in the coffin for the St. Louis team’s playoff hopes.
