2 dead, 2 injured in shooting in St. Louis’ Academy/Sherman Park neighborhood
ST. LOUIS (First Alert 4) -- Two people died, and two others were injured in a shooting in St. Louis City Wednesday afternoon.
The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department (SLMPD) said officers responded to the 5000 block of Kensington in the city’s Academy/Sherman Park neighborhood around 4:50 p.m. for a shooting.
Police say a man and woman, both 21, died after the shooting. Police identified them as Qua’nell Robinson and Taylor Richards, both of Florissant.
“Officers arrived they found two people who had been shot. after arriving on the scene and rendering aid, they were alerted by the hospital to two additional shooting victims that had showed up,” said Mitch McCoy, SLMPD’s Director of Public Affairs and Information Division.
Police say two other men, 21 and 31, were injured; the 31-year-old was in critical, unstable condition and the other man was shot in the arm and was in stable condition.
Police say officers arrived on scene two minutes after the initial call. Before they got there, an off-duty firefighter was rendering aid, McCoy said.
“Absolute hero when it comes to rendering aid and trying to save individual lives out here tonight,” said McCoy.
First Alert 4 crews spotted at least 40 evidence markers all over Kensington Avenue.
“So this is an area that the city has been heavily in the neighborhood, heavily focused on,” said Captain Christi Marks with SLMPD.
Captain Marks says the shooting scene area is known for drugs and crime. They have real-time crime cameras installed nearby.
The Homicide Unit was requested to investigate.
Police say a gun and cash were on scene.
“We’ll process the scene, we’ll look for evidence, but it’s a partnership. If we want to put bad people behind bars and hold them able, it takes the entire community,” McCoy said.
