Metro East varsity soccer player killed in Monroe County crash
ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) - Monday night, hundreds gathered for a candlelight vigil to honor a metro east student killed in a crash in Monroe County, Illinois.
Jamey Bridges, a coach at Columbia High School confirmed Crawford Bryant was the one killed in Sunday afternoon’s crash. Bryant was a sophomore varsity soccer player at the high school. Bridges says this loss is rocking the district, his teammates, and the whole community
“There’s no process for this,” said Bridges, Braynt’s head coach. “This is something that hits hard, it’s something you don’t get past, it’s life changes, it marks you. It marks you because you’re never going to be the same again. These players aren’t going to be the same again, family is not going to be the same again, we are not going to be the same.”

Illinois State Police tell First Alert 4 the deadly crash happened on Hanover Road near Illinois Route 3 Sunday afternoon. A Waterloo Police officer saw a car speeding on Route 3, soon after ISP says that same car was found involved in this deadly crash.
Tuesday, Columbia Unit School District Superintendent Christopher Grode said a total of four students were involved. In addition to the fatality, two are still in hospital care, while one is at home with family.
The Monroe County Coroner pronounced Bryant dead on scene.
ISP and the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office are investigating a fatal accident
