ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) - St. Louis CITY SC took a much-needed win Sunday afternoon against Western Conference leader LA Galaxy in front of a home crowd at CITYPARK.

With this win, CITY now is tied with Sporting KC with 27 points, a long way off from being able to make playoffs. However, with this win against a formidable team, CITY can hopefully carry this momentum and finish their season stronger than they started.

Pre-game preview

The match comes after last week’s late Saturday night game against Portland, in which CITY fumbled a lead and ended in a 4-4 tie against the Timbers.

CITY isn’t mathematically out of playoff hopes yet, but with every tie and loss, a chance for a comeback season looks less and less likely. Sunday’s match will be a true test of the team to see if they can work a miracle after a whirlwind of trades during the summer window.

CITY and LA have played three times in the past two seasons, neither being able to come away with a win. Back in March, CITY came from behind to turn a loss into a 3-3 tie at Dignity Health Sports Park.
