Taylor is charged with first-degree property damage, attempted stealing, resisting arrest and fourth-degree assault. Prosecutor Wesley Bell referenced him in a news conference Tuesday but did not name him. The case was under seal until Wednesday.
According to charging documents, Taylor attempted to take an officer’s gun by attempting to pull it out of the officer’s holster. He also allegedly pulled at the steel gate to the entrance of the Ferguson Police Department, causing the gate to disassemble.
Taylor is also accused of damaging the Ferguson Police Department four days after the incident. Police say he was under arrest for an outstanding warrant and while inside an interview room, he rammed his head into the wall several times, creating two large holes in the wall.
Taylor is currently on probation for resisting/interfering with arrest in a case involving protests in Florissant in 2020. He also had an active warrant for a driving case without proper registration.
Ferguson Officer Travis Brown was severely injured after another defendant, Elijah Gantt, pushed him to the ground during the protest. Police said video released Tuesday showed him sprinting towards the officer, who then hit his head on the ground.
A number of other people are also facing charges for what happened at the Ferguson police department August 9.
