ST. LOUIS COUNTY (First Alert 4) – St. Louis County Prosecutor Wesley Bell has defeated Congresswoman Cori Bush in the Democratic primary for Missouri 1st Congressional District.

Bell has served as St. Louis County prosecutor since 2019 and before that he served on the Ferguson City Council. Bell initially announced he would try to run for US Senate, but in 2023, announced he would instead seek the congressional district.

Bush served as Congresswoman for two , unseating Lacy Clay. Before that, the Clay family held the seat for more than 50 years.

Bell is heavily favored to win the seat in November. The district is the most Democratic-leaning in Missouri, covering all of St. Louis City and parts of North and Mid County.
