Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce becomes highest paid at his position with new contract

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - Don’t tell Travis Kelce he’s in the twilight of his career.
The 34-year-old All-Pro tight end and the Kansas City Chiefs agreed on a new two-year contract to make him the highest-paid at his position in the National Football League, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported on Monday afternoon.
Spotrac reported that Kelce’s two-year, $34.25 million extension runs through 2025 and replaces his old deal, providing him with guaranteed money in 2024 and the highest average annual value -- $17.125 million -- for a tight end in NFL history.
Kelce was in the middle of a four-year, $57.25 million contract that takes him through the 2025 season.
“It’s hard to put into words what Travis means to this organization, this city,” said Chiefs general manager Brett Veach during a Zoom call Monday. “It was certainly a priority to adjust his contract for us, and it was something that was important for (Chiefs owner) Clark (Hunt).
“It’s very fitting that Travis is now the highest-paid tight end (in the NFL) in these two years.”

The nine-time Pro Bowler and three-time Super Bowl champion is coming off a 2023 season that saw him finish just shy of the 1,000-yard receiving mark (984 yards) for the first time in eight years, although he did sit out the last game of the season.
Kelce, one of the greatest tight ends in NFL history, has a chance to eclipse the 1,000 receptions mark this season, standing at 907 over his 10 full seasons.
His 74 receiving touchdowns are good for fifth among tight ends in NFL history (1-Tony Gonzalez: 116), and his 11,328 receiving yards are fourth all-time for those at his position (1-Tony Gonzalez: 15,127).
