ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) - A major change to how St. Louis City restaurants get a liquor license is moving forward Thursday at city hall but with some opposition.

Many residents said the proposed change would take power away from them in deciding what businesses can go in their neighborhoods.

The proposed bill includes a 90-day probationary period for restaurants, and they can lose their liquor license if laws are violated.

The bill also gives the excise division more power to act quickly to shut down bad actors.

The bill now heads to the full board for a vote.
