Man sentenced for killing acquaintance before stealing drugs in North County

HANLEY HILLS, Mo. (KMOV) - A man from Cuba, Missouri, was sentenced to 25 years in prison for a deadly shooting in Hanley Hills in February 2023.

Terry W. Winebarger, 52, previously pleaded guilty to possession with the intent to distribute methamphetamine, discharge of a firearm in furtherance of a drug-trafficking crime resulting in death and being a felon in possession of a firearm. He itted to killing John Stevens while he was asleep inside a home in the 7800 block of Utica Drive on Feb. 18, 2023.

After killing Stevens, Winebarger said he stole his gun, jewelry and methamphetamine.

Winebarger was sentenced on Wednesday, November 6.
